The participation of Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal and Pakistani cricketers Saeed Ajmal and Shahid Afridi has been confirmed for the prestigious clash between Marylebone Cricket Club and Rest of the World, scheduled for July 5 at Lord’s. The match is a part of the celebrations to commemorate the 200th year of the establishment of Lord’s cricket ground. Tamim etched his name on the Lord’s honours board after smashing a century at the home of cricket in the second innings of the first Test against England in 2010.
The tie will feature a host of star names, with retired batting legend Sachin Tendulkar set to captain the MCC side. The Rest of the World team will be led by former Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne.
Indian duo Yuvraj Singh and Virender Sehwag will also take part in the celebration match, alongside New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori, Australian speedster Shaun Tait and West Indian batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
Three other retired cricketers – India’s Rahul Dravid, Australia’s Adam Gilchrist and England’s Paul Collingwood – will also line up for the match.
