Bangladesh’s disappointing performances in the last two one-day international competitions at home had an impact on the latest ODI rankings as most of the cricketers dropped down places in different categories. The Tigers suffered a series sweep in three one-dayers against Sri Lanka before bowing out of the Asia Cup after losing all of their four games. In the all-rounders’ category, Sakib al Hasan dropped down one place to third with Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews replacing Sakib at second. Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez is still at the top.
Returning from a three-match ban for a lewd gesture on live television, Sakib featured in two Asia Cup games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. In those games, he took just one wicket and scored 64 runs.
In the ODI batsmen’s category, Sakib remained at 29th position. But Nasir Hossain fell two places from 42nd to 40th position. Nasir scored 72 runs from three innings in the Asia Cup.
In the bowlers’ category, the Bangladeshi trio of Sakib, Abdur Razzak and Mashrafee bin Murtaza all descended from their previous positions.
Sakib plunged to 21st from 20th while both Razzak and Mashrafee went down four places. Mashrafee was now 46th as a side strain ruled him out of the Asia Cup while Razzak slipped to 17th after picking up just two wickets from three games, and that too at an economy rate of 6.34 runs per over.
The only positive was that of skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, who progressed eight places to 35th in the batsmen’s category. Mushfiq garnered 195 runs from four games in the Asia Cup, including a hundred against India.
In the teams’ ODI rankings, Bangladesh still remained in ninth position although they lost out on one rating
point. With 79 points, Bangladesh are 24 rating points ahead of 10th-placed Zimbabwe and 11 rating points behind West Indies (90 rating points) who are eighth.
