India beat England by 20 runs in ICC World Twenty20 warm-up match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, sending the 2010 winners to their second defeat in as many days.
England never threatened to chase down 179, falling well behind the required rate despite a bright start at 51-1 after six overs. pener Michael Lumb scored 36 off 25 balls and number three Moeen Ali hit 46 off 38, but England struggled to get the bowlers away after Lumb departed in the eighth over, save for a late Jos Buttler (30 off 18) charge with the target well out of reach.
Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets as England’s innings petered out to 158-6 in 20 overs.
Earlier, India recovered from three early wickets to post 178-4 thanks to
Virat Kohli’s 48-ball 74 and Suresh Raina’s 54 off 31 deliveries.
The pair came together with India on 39-3 after six overs and put on 81 runs in nine overs, and by the time a fine catch by Chris Jordan off Ravi Bopara’s bowling saw Raina depart, India were set up for a big finish with wickets in hand and one of the world’s best finishers in captain MS Dhoni coming in.
Dhoni (21 off 14) and Kohli added another 58 runs in the last five overs, including 17 off Tim Bresnan’s 20th.
