Consumers will get power connections within 40 days after applying instead of waiting for long, said state minister for power, energy and mineral resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu on Thursday.
The government is planning to install Fast Track Centre to provide new power connection within 40 days after applying to ease the consumers’ sufferings, said the state minister addressing the launching ceremony of Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh Fair 2014.
Real Estate and Housing Association of Bangladesh organised the five-day fair at the capital’s Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
Nasrul Hamid said they would install two compressors at Ashuganj and Elenga in April to ease people’s sufferings because of gas crisis.
Urging real estate developers to follow the exiting rules, he said the real estate sector contributes 30 per cent to the country’s gross domestic product.
Criticising Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha, he said thousands of buildings which were built in his constituency Keraniganj had no approval of RAJUK.
The state minister urged the city development authorities not to take step after the buildings were built, rather to check before they were built.
Regarding power price hike, he said, ‘We did not increase power price; we have adjusted the price.’
At present there is no load shedding as the government has increased 11,000 megawatt power production against the demand for 6800MW, claimed the state minister.
RAJUK member (development and planning) Helaluddin said they had already appointed 24 authorised officers in stead of eight to scrutinise building designs and structures.
REHAB vice-president Md Abdur Rashid, acting president Mokarram Hossain Khan, vice-president Liaqat Ali Bhuiyan and general secretary Wahiduzzaman also spoke at the launching ceremony.
There are 155 stalls at the REHAB fair — 141 of real estate and developer organisations and 14 of others. Eleven organisations are the co-sponsors of the fair, which is open to visitors from 11:00am to 9:30pm, with an entry fee Tk 50 (single) and Tk 100 (multiple).
