The SAARC Artist Camp has been serving as a platform for artists from all the SAARC nations for showcasing their talent since 2011. The event which takes place every year will be hosted for the first time in Bangladesh from April 9 to 11.
Nilachal, one of the scenic tourist attractions of Bangladesh, has been chosen as the venue for the camp. This will be the fourth SAARC Artist Camp.
The organisers of SAARC Artist Camp 2014 held a press conference at National Art Plaza Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Monday to reveal the schedule of the event.
The SAARC Cultural Centre, in association with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, is organising the artist camp in which 48 artists from all the eight SAARC countries will participate.
Along with the artist camp, a four-day exhibition of artworks by all the participating artists will be held from April 9 to 12 at the National Art Gallery of BSA.
The art camp titled Solidarity with Nature-A South Asian Perspective at Nilachal, Bandarban is intended to take the artists close to and amidst nature, said the speakers at the press conference.
Ranajit Kumar Biswas, secretary of cultural affairs ministry, was present at the conference as chief guest.
Soundarie David Rodrigo, deputy director of SAARC Cultural Centre, Anowar Hossain, director of the fine arts department of the academy, and others were also present as special guests at the conference which was presided over by Liaquat Ali Lucky, director general of BSA.
The first and second SAARC artist camps were held in Sri Lanka respectively in 2011 and 2012, whereas Maldives held the third one in 2013.
