National batsmen Mominul Haque and Anamul Haque starred on the third day of the National Cricket League last round as Dhaka Division are on course for a victory over Khulna at Cox’s Bazar on Monday. Anamul carried the bat through the innings to stroke 119 not out, guiding Khulna to 232 in their second innings to set up 222-run winning target for Dhaka, who are assured of the title having already confirmed five bonus points from the match.
Dhaka reached 96-1, needing 126 runs more on the fourth and final day with nine wickets in hand to finish the tournament in grand style.
Nazmul Apu, Shuvagoto Hom and Taibur Parvez each grabbed three wickets as Khulna struggled throughout their second innings. Anamul was one exception, hitting nine fours and five sixes in his six-hour long innings.
Chittagong v Sylhet
Mominul Haque, playing only his second game in this season’s NCL, struck 168 runs as Chittagong declared their second innings at 415-9, setting a challenging 439-run target for Sylhet to chase. Off-break bowler Ahmed Sadiqur was standout performer for Sylhet claiming seven wickets for 105 runs.
Facing an uphill task to win the game or avoid the defeat, Sylhet began well reaching 64-1 at close on the third day.
Rajshahi v Dhaka Metro
Rajshahi were facing a defeat against Dhaka Metropolis side, losing six wickets for 120 runs after they were set a target of 272 runs.
Metro, who were bowled out for 126 runs in the first innings, made a stunning comeback in their second innings, scoring 352 runs. Left-arm spinner Elias Sunny scored a crucial half-century, 55 not out, and then took two wickets to give Metro a hope for a win.
Rangpur v Barisal
Tanvir Haider scored his second century in as many matches to help Rangpur declare their first innings at 593-9 before they reduced Barisal to 133-2 at stumps on the third day.
Tanvir added an unbeaten 121 runs to Dhiman Ghosh’s 149 as Rangpur gained a 254-run first innings lead having dismissed Barisal for 289 runs earlier.
Nasir Hossain struck twice as Rangpur began their victory charge with Barisal still needing 121 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
