The curtain on the Shane Jurgensen drama is expected to fall today with the Bangladesh Cricket Board set to decide the fate of national cricket team’s Australian head coach in its board of directors meeting in the afternoon. The officials said BCB president Nazmul Hasan and a few other directors, closely involved in policy making decision, will speak to Jurgensen before making a decision in this regard.
It is unlikely that the BCB will request Jurgensen to continue unless he gives a satisfactory explanation for his abrupt resignation.
Jurgensen took the BCB officials by surprise by sending a resignation letter via e-mail on April 28.
The coach was apparently upset by some public comments of the BCB officials over his fate.
The BCB president is of the opinion that one cannot quit a responsible post for a vague reason and therefore decided to dig deep into the matter .
The BCB officials said they have not taken any position in this matter yet, meaning the coach has still an outside chance of seeing out his contract until the World Cup 2015.
If the BCB accepts his resignation letter there is a chance it will appoint a local coach for an interim period until the one-day series against India in June.
Jurgensen, however, said he can work up to the India series provided the BCB wants him to do so, though the officials said that chance is slim if his resignation is accepted.
