Veteran local coach Sarwar Imran is all set to take over the charge of Bangladesh national cricket team for the upcoming home series against India, said the Bangladesh Cricket Board officials on Monday. ‘We are considering the name of Sarwar Imran [for the India series],’ Jalal Yunus, BCB’s media committee chairman, told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. ‘There is very slim chance of getting a foreign head coach before the India series.’
Imran guided the national team through different crisis starting from the inaugural Test when the then coaching director Eddie Barlow fell sick, He returned to the helm in 2003 after the BCB dismissed coaching pair Mohsin Kamal and Ali Zia in the wake of a disastrous World Cup campaign.
Despite the word from the BCB, which is struggling to find a suitable replacement for Australian Shane Jurgensen, Imran said he is yet to receive any proposal.
‘I am ready to take up the responsibility,’ Imran told New Age. ‘But frankly speaking I am yet to receive any proposal.’
Imran, who is already in talks with the BCB to take over the charge of National Cricket Academy, guided Gazi Tank Cricketers to Dhaka Premier League title.
The BCB is now busy confirming the schedule of India, who will play three one-day internationals before travelling to England in June
India will arrive on June 13 and the three ODIs will be held on June 15, 17 and 19 before India fly to England, though the BCB said these are tentative dates.
‘The BCB has not yet received any official confirmation from India,’ said Jalal.
