The first impression one is likely to get at the 19th Young Artist Art Exhibition 2014 is the amazing diversity of mediums,
styles and categories of artworks on display.
More than 200 artworks by 150 young artists have been selected for display in the 19th edition of the biennial young artist art exhibition.
The exhibition, organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, is currently being held at the galleries of National Art Plaza of BSA.
Renowned artists of the country selected the 200 artworks for display from amongst 1000 entries that were submitted. Another four-member judging panel consisting of seasoned artists selected the best artwork, top ones in three categories and four other works for honorary citation.
Young artist Anisuzzaman Mamun won the Young Artist Award for his acrylic work titled Reality Show. Mamun has demonstrated the volatile and violent nature of the country’s politics in his work. Two rectangular vote-boxes, with seals of the election commission, are lying amid human skulls and other tokens of violence in the painting.
Rupom Roy has won the best award in sculpture category for his experimental iron sculpture titled Sound Lost in Sound. Palash Baran Biswas has won the best award in print making for a wood-etching work titled Woman and Reality. Mojahidur Rahman Sarker has won the best installation award for mixed media work titled Autobiography of an Incomplete Man.
Honorary citation has been given to Sumona Akter for video installation Red, Syed Fida Hossain for mixed media work titled Self Quest and Panorama World, Ruhul Amin Tarek for Dream for Dreaming and Khokan Chandra Sarkar for Foster Mother.
Besides the award-winning works, there are many other works that the art lovers will most definitely enjoy. The dazzling display of canvases in oil, watercolour, acrylic as well as printmaking, pottery, graphics, installations, sculptures and others are sure to grip the interest of the audience.
The exhibition will remain open for all from 11am to 7pm till June 25.
