A dejected Bangladesh will take on India in the third and final one-day international of a three-match series at Mirpur today hoping to restore some pride after humiliating defeats in the first two matches. The Tigers were put into shame when an inexperienced Indian line-up dismissed them for just 58 runs, their lowest ever ODI total, in an overcast condition at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
This came after they were set a target of 106 runs with debutant pace bowler Taskin Ahmed grabbing 5-28 to rip through the Indian line-up.
Medium pacer Stuart Binny, who was playing only his third ODI, left the home side tottering with his 6-4, the best one-day bowling figure by an India bettering Anil Kumble’s 6-12 against West Indies at Kolkata in 1993.
The 47-run defeat caused an uproar among the fans despite skipper Mushfiqur Rahim apologising to all.
The call now is for dropping some under-performing cricketers, especially opener Tamim Iqbal who made four runs in the first two matches.
This may open the door for Shamsur Rahman while off-spinner Sohag Gazi was also expected to return for Ziaur Rahman, who failed to play any significant part with either the bat or the ball in first two matches.
