The Bangladesh national cricket team is scheduled leave for Australia on January 26 next year, 19 days ahead of the forthcoming ICC World Cup 2015, to set up a base camp for their preparations, said an official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Saturday. The ICC World Cup 2015 will get underway on February 14, 2015 but the Tigers will begin their training in Brisbane to prepare themselves for the tournament.
The visitors are expected to play a number of practice matches against different local teams in a bid to adapt to the conditions and the fast and bouncy wickets of Australia.
The Tigers will also play a couple of games against Australia Cricket XI at the Alan Border Oval Cricket Academy prior to playing the ICC-approved warm-up matches after February 6.
‘Until now we could only confirm the two practice matches against Australian Cricket XI before the start of the World Cup campaign,’ Jalal Yunus, chairman of the BCB’s media committee, told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
‘We’re trying to arrange more practice matches against the local teams,’ he added.
Bangladesh, who have been placed in Pool A, will formally start their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan at Canberra on February 18.
