Country’s sovereignty victim of conspiracy: Delwar
The 31st founding anniversary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was celebrated across the country on Tuesday. On this occasion BNP Chairperson and Leader of the Opposition Begum Khaleda Zia alongwith central leaders of the party visited the mazar of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
She placed wreaths at the mazar, stood in solemn silence for sometime and prayed for peace of the departed soul of Ziaur Rahman.
BNP Secretary General Advocate Khandaker Delwar Hossain and senior leaders of the party and its associate organizations were present.
Leaders and workers BNP front organizations also placed wreaths at the mazar of Ziaur Rahman on the occasion. In observance of the founding anniversary BNP organised a discussion meeting on Tuesday at the Engineers’ Institution Bangladesh auditorium in the city. Begum Khaleda Zia attended the function as the chief guest.
Speaking at the discussion meeting Khandaker Delwar Hossain said country’s independence, sovereignty, existence and multi-party-democracy have become victims of aggression and conspiracy that must be resisted by organised nationalist forces.
“Aggression and deep-rooted conspiracy are being hatched against our independence, sovereignty, multi-party-democracy and economy by a certain neighboring country. After accepting blessing from India, the AL came to power through a stage managed election. Without implementing party’s own election manifesto, the government is engaged in implementing the pledges which were made to the foreign friends,” Khandaker Delwar Hossain said.
He said country’s overall securities and existence are affected severely as deep-rooted conspiracy against these are being hatched by a group of colonial forces. As part of their plot, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman was killed and the state power was illegally occupied by the then army chief Ershad.
“After that, protests against the plots over country’s independence, sovereignty, existence, multi-party-democracy and economy have been under the uncompromised leadership of our party chief Begum Khaleda Zia. It will be continued until ensuring country’s overall security,” he said.
The ruling party does not believe in democratic administration and parliamentary democracy. They have no trust in democracy that was violated by them several times. Violating country’s constitution, an agreement between country’s hill districts people and AL government was signed unilaterally. Earlier, multi-party-democracy was killed by the party. So the ruling party is not fond of democracy, he alleged.
In order to oust Khaleda Zia and her family members from the country and banish the BNP, the ruling party is hatching conspiracy. If the nationalist forces could be united and organised with the spirit of Shaheed president Ziaur Rahman, all sorts of plots must be foiled and country’s multi-party-democracy will be restored.
Among others, BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosarraf Hossain, senior leader Salauddin Kader Chowdhury, joint secretary general Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Mirja Abbas, Juba Dal president Barkat Ullah Bulu and its secretary general Moazzem Hossain Alal took part in the discussion.
Earlier, marking party’s 31st founding anniversary BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia accompanied by senior leaders from different associate organisations went to Shaheed president Ziaur Rahman’s grave and placed wreaths there. They also offered fateha after placing wreaths at the grave.
