National captain Mushfiqur Rahim has opted out of Asian Games for his marriage ceremony, said the officials of the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday.
Pace bowler Mashrafee bin Murtaza is expected to lead the Bangladesh team in the Asian Games, scheduled in Incheon, Korea from September 19 to October 4, in the absence of Mushfiq.
Mushfiq is engaged to Jannatul Kifayet Mondi, the sister in law of fellow national cricketer Mahmudullah.
Bangladesh won the gold medal in cricket when the game featured for the first time in the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China in 2010.
Mohammad Ashraful led a second-string Bangladesh team, which beat Afghanistan in the final.
Unlike the Guangzhou meet Bangladesh are expected to send a full-strength side in Incheon as they seek to retain the gold medal, the first ever gold medal won by the country in an Asian meet.
