Yet another movie on the 1984 riots is set to open in October, titled Jaane Kyun (The Unanswered Question), the film will feature Soha Ali Khan and
Vir Das, reports Hindustan Times.
The movie will be a political thriller helmed by Shivaji Lotan Patil (who won National Award for his Marathi film Dhaag). The last leg of the shoot will take place in Mumbai from August 10 to 20. Jaane Kyun is reportedly based on a true incident and the first ever work on the subject to come out of the Bollywood stable.
Jaane Kyun dramatises the nightmarish experiences of a Sikh family in Delhi and how it survives death and destruction through sheer courage and, more importantly, kinship.
As Delhi burns, a wife’s epitome of strength and conviction saves her husband and children from murderous mobs.
Kayan Taran, directed by Sashi Kumar, was one of the films on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which erupted soon after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her bodyguards.
Adapting it from a Malayalam short story, When Big Tree Falls, written by the legendary author NS Madhavan (a distinguished IAS officer), Sashi Kumar had Angad Bedi playing Preet and Seema Biswas Sister Agatha.
It was a moving story of a Sikh woman and her young son forced to flee Delhi during the riots and take shelter in a Meerut nunnery.
