Bangladesh let another victory slip from their grasp as they lost to West Indies by three wickets in the first one-day international of three-match series in Grenada on Wednesday.
The Tigers were on top when they left West Indies reeling at 34-5 before Kieron Pollard and Denesh Ramdin took the game away with 145-run sixth wicket partnership.
Opener Anamul Haque scored his third one-day international -109 off 138 balls- leading the Tigers to 217-9, which at times looked sufficient on a slow wicket at the National Stadium in St. George’s.
Mashrafee bin Murtaza bowled beautifully in his opening spell and two spinners Sohag Gazi and Mahmudullah complemented him to put West Indies under huge pressure.
Al-Amin Hossain reaped the reward with a three-wicket burst as West Indies lost their top-half inside first 14 overs.
Just when Bangladesh started dreaming their first ODI win in 2014, Pollard launched a counter attack to leave them in total disarray.
On his way to 89 off 70 balls, which included six sixes and five fours, man of the match Pollard did not spare any bowler, not even Mashrafee, who was at his sublime best having conceded just seven runs in his first six overs.
Bangladesh, who left out Abdur Razzak and Mominul Haque, were lack of option as Ramdin and Pollard rebuilt West Indies innings.
Sohag bowled Ramdin for 74 runs to end their record sixth wicket stand against Bangladesh and moments later Al-Amim made Pollard his fourth victim.
But they came a little too late as West Indies romped to 219-7 with more than 10 overs to spare. Al-Amin finished with his career best 4-51.
