Activists of the Chittagong University unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir on Monday attacked the university-bound shuttle-train, at two railway stations, with crude bombs.
At least six students sustained injuries during the attack. Two of the students received primary treatment from the university’s medical centre.According to railway police and witnesses, the Shibir men tried to halt a university-bound shuttle-train at Sholoshahar station at about 8:30am, to observe their second day of strike.
They blasted several crude bombs at a level crossing some hundred yards away from the station.
The Shibir men again swooped on the train and blasted at least half a dozen crude bombs when it reached Chowdhury Hat station.
Mostafizur Rahman, president of CU unit of Shibir, however, said that their activists were not involved with the attack on the shuttle-train.
The CU authorities closed down the two Shibir-dominated dormitories – Suhrwardi and Shah Amanat Hall – following a clash between activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League and Shibir on the university campus on August 24.
The Shibir men under the banner of general students called an indefinite strike at the campus from Sunday, demanding reopening of the two dormitories.
