Cultural organisation Surer Dhara celebrated the 5th founding anniversary of the Music for Development project at the Music and Dance Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday.
Music for Development is an initiative to teach music and dance to underprivileged children of the Mohammadpur dam area. Thirty children who were trained in the project, performed at the programme.
Well known singer Rezwana Choudhury Bannya, who is also the chief of Surer Dhara told New Age that Music for Development operates with the belief that culture should not be limited only within the affluent community of the society. ‘There are a lot of talented children in our country, who do not get the opportunity to learn or demonstrate their artistic capabilities. Surer Dhara aims to reach out to them in order to nurture their abilities,’ Bannya said.
The show began with a group dance presentation to the song Tumi Nirmal Koro Mangal Koro. The children who performed impressed the viewers with their well-coordinated moves on the stage.
Another notable performance was a group dance that featured a troupe of three children to the Tagore song Mon Mor Megher Songi. The vibrant performance created a joyous atmosphere in the hall.
