Dhaka stocks advanced for the fifth trading session on Monday as buying pressure in late trading offset the impact of the profit-taking sales in the morning session.
Investors increased their buying in late hours as they remained optimistic that the market might increase further, market operators said. They said relatively calm general strike enforced by BNP-led alliance was another reason for the investors’ optimism.
The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, closed at 4,924.52 points, adding 0.22 per cent or 11.28 points.
The DSEX gained 214 points in the last five trading days.
The DSEX on the day also rewrote its all-time high record since its launch with 4,055.90 points on January 28 last year.
DS30, the blue-chip index of the bourse, however, shed 0.60 per cent, or 11.43 points, to finish at 1,889.25 points.
The Shariah index of the bourse, DSES, fell by 0.38 per cent, or 4.42 points, to close at 1,149.59 points.
Of the 303 shares and mutual funds traded on the day, 141 advanced, 135 declined and 27 remained unchanged.
‘Despite the nationwide strike for the consecutive three working days, the equity market continued to advance amid heightened turnover,’ IDLC Investments said in its daily market commentary.
Investors remained active and turnover crossed Tk 9.5 billion for the 4th consecutive session, it said.
Turnover of the bourse increased to Tk 992.30 crore on Monday compared with that of Tk 981.35 crore in the previous trading session.
Shares of Ratanpur Steel Re-Rolling Mills Limited gained the most by 91.75 per cent or Tk 36 on its debut on Monday.
The company’s shares worth Tk 75.41 crore changed hands. The company topped the turnover leaders on the day.
RSRM’s shares were traded around Tk 67.10-Tk 80 on the day.
The issue price of the company’s shares was Tk 40 each including a premium of Tk 30.
Grameenphone, Beximco, MJL Bangladesh, Beximco Pharma, Lafarge Surma Cement, BSRM Steels, Active Fine Chemical Industries, ACI and ACI Formulations were among the other turnover leaders.
Safko Spinning was the worst loser on the day, shedding 5.57 per cent.
