Rain is likely to play a big part in the second four-day match between Bangladesh A and Zimbabwe A that got underway at the Fatullah Stadium on Monday.
Only 21 overs of play were possible on the opening day, with Bangladesh A reaching 88-0 before bad light forced the umpires to call off the play at 4:30pm.The match could not be started until 1:30pm because of early morning shower under the influence of depression at the Bay of Bengal.
Bangladesh Meteorological Department said some parts of the country are going to witness some heavy downpour in the next few days due to active monsoon.
‘Due to active monsoon over Bangladesh heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places during the next 24 hours commencing from September 22 afternoon,’ a BMD’s weather forecast on said Monday.
‘Under its influence heavy to very heavy rainfall and landslide may occur at places.’
If that remains the case, in all likelihood it will have a serious impact on the outcome of the last game of the two-match series between the visitors and their Bangladeshi counterparts.
Bangladesh A are leading by 1-0 after their six-wicket win in the opening game at Cox’s Bazar.
Officials said that the drainage system of Fatullah does not have the facility to clear the water in quick time.
The opening day’s match was delayed for several hours before the hosts went to bat after they were invited by Zimbabwe A captain Vusi Sibanda.
Out-of-favour Shahriar Nafees grabbed the opportunity with two hands to notch up an undefeated half-century that helped the second string Bangladesh side to get some sort of momentum in their batting.
Nafees, who was a last-minute inclusion after opener Liton Das has picked up an injury, justified his inclusion by making 58 not out.
His 73-ball knock featured nine fours and it seemed he had regained some sort of form before the play was halted at 3:8pm for bad light.
His opening partner Sadman Islam remained unbeaten on 18 runs and was happy to play the role of second fiddle.
