Dhaka stocks rebounded on Tuesday amid investors’ increased purchasing of bank and non-bank finance entities’ shares. The key index of Dhaka Stock Exchange, DSEX, rose by 0.47 per cent, or 23.96 points, to close at 5,074.30 points on the day. DSEX declined on Monday after the straight nine-trading session rise. Turnover of the bourse declined to Tk 879.76 crore on Tuesday compared with that of Tk 902.62 crore in the previous trading session.
Market operators said the investors mostly focused on the financial sectors on Tuesday as they found the share prices of the entities comparatively safer for investment.
Share prices of some companies under the cement, engineering, pharmaceutical sectors rose sharply in the last two months that made investments on such stocks comparatively riskier, they said.
Bank and NBFI sectors gained 1.5 per cent and 2.10 per cent respectively on Tuesday.
Besides, some profit-taking share sell-offs ahead of Eid-ul-Azha also took place on the day, the operators said.
DS30, the blue-chip index of the bourse, finished flat at 1,960.87 points, adding 0.14 per cent or 2.77 points.
The shariah index of DSE, DSES, stands at 1,195.52 points, shedding 0.15 per cent or 1.91 points.
Of the 300 shares and mutual funds traded on the day, 137 advanced, 123 declined and 40 remained unchanged.
‘Market passed a shining day as investors showed their appetite once again for high-yielding stocks,’ LankaBangla Securities Limited said in its daily market analysis.
‘Investors have showing their buying interest evading the selling pressure on stocks,’ it said.
‘Benchmark index has closed at 5074 points gaining 23.96 points, mostly supported by financial stocks,’ LankaBangla said.
‘On the economic front, the inflow of remittance to the country showed rising trend with the country receiving a total of $1.08 billion till September 26, reports BSS ahead of festivals,’ it said.
‘High liquidity in money market and low interest rate has continued to boost up equities,’ LankaBangla said.
Grameenphone led the turnover chart on the day as its shares worth Tk 75.20 crore changed hands.
Titas Gas, MJL Bangladesh, Jamuna Oil, Olympic Industries, Golden Son, BEXIMCO, Square Pharmaceuticals, Beximco Pharma and Delta Life Insurance Company were among other turnover leaders.
Popular Life Insurance gained the most on the day as its share prices rose by 9.95 per cent, while Central Pharmaceuticals lost the most shedding 13.40 per cent.
