Defending Dhaka Premier League champions Legends of Rupganj alleged that they were forced to play their fourth round match against Abahani on Friday with a controversial umpire in charge. Legends’ joint-secretary Tarikul Islam Titu said they lodged an official complaint to the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis about umpire Mizanur Rahman a day before the game and yet he was appointed.
‘We had serious objection about him and we informed it to CCDM in due process. Yet he was given the charge of the match which left us surprised,’ he said.
Legends won the crucial game at Fatullah by three wickets but said they had to overcome many odds to come out victorious.
‘Our supporters were driven away from the gallery of our dressing room and instead that place was given to Abahani supporters,’ alleged Titu.
‘They created a lot of noise, hurled abusive words towards our players, which were clearly distracting.’
Legends also alleged that they were denied of a chance of recording the game.
Bangladesh Cricket Board director Jalal Yunus, who was present at the ground, brushed aside the allegations.
‘Many teams raise objections about certain umpires, CCDM cannot always accept them,’ said Jalal.
Jalal also added that teams require prior permission before recording a game.
