Zimbabwean skipper Elton Chigumbura believes that the five-match one-day international series is not yet over for the visitors despite them going 0-2 down in Chittagong on Sunday.
Bangladesh, followed their 87-run win in the first ODI with a 68 runs success that took them closer to winning the series with three matches left in Dhaka.‘Just one game can change everything,’ a hopeful Chigumbura told reporters in Chittagong. ‘I am sure if we win the next game, Bangladesh will be under very much pressure.’
‘There are three more games left and a lot can change,’ he said.
Chigumbura said that Zimbabweans paid the price of making the same mistake of not holding the wickets that eventually costs them the game.
‘I think 280 in the first game was also chaseable but we just made the same mistake once again in this game which is losing too many wickets at a time,’ said Chigumbura,
‘I thought we were still in the game and only if I could bat myself to chase that score,’ said Chigumbura, who was run out by a direct hit of Sabbir Rahman.
‘There were a few parts when our bowlers bowled brilliantly,’ he said.
‘The fielders provided the energy and it was very enthusiastic. But we didn’t manage to do the something with the bat,’ he added.
Chigumbura also finds some positives in the batting of Solomon Mire, who, playing his second game, scored 50 off 79 balls that gave them some hope after a stuttering start.
‘It’s always good to see one of your youngsters making some runs and shows confidence only in his second game,’ he said. ‘Hopefully he can carry what he did today in the rest of the series.’
