Suspended only few months ago for ‘severe attitude problem,’ Sakib al Hasan hit the headlines for a wrong reason again on Wednesday when he was fined Tk 10,000 for his behaviour in the Dhaka Premier League match. Sakib, playing his first match for Legends of Rupganj, allegedly charged umpire Mizanur Rahman verbally during their match against Prime Bank at the BKSP.Sakib was unhappy as the umpire ruled out his loud leg-before appeal against Brendan Taylor in the match that Legends eventually lost by 95 runs.
The incident happened in the 10.2 overs when Sakib, coming round the wicket, bowled a diagonal delivery to Taylor that hit his pad.
Sakib along with the slip cordon fielders immediately appealed loudly only to be denied by Mizanur.
According to an official present at the ground, Sakib reacted sharply over the refusal only to get fined. Match referee Obidul Haque handed over the punishment after hearing following the match.
The incident happened at a time when Sakib was repeatedly getting praised by the Bangladesh Cricket Board high-ups over his improved behaviour.
The BCB is about to lift his embargo on playing in foreign leagues after he convinced the officials about his commitment through his performance in Zimbabwe series.
The announcement is likely to come today which will facilitate a move for him in Australia’s Big Bash Twenty20 tournament.
Meanwhile, Sheikh Jamal off-spinner Sohag Gazi was handed a one-match suspension and fined Tk 10,000 for his unsporting behaviour against Mohammedan at Mirpur.
Sohag, who is remodeling his action, stayed a few minutes at the crease after being given lbw by Sharafuddola Ibne Saikat in a straight ball bowled by Naeem Islam.
Sohag also verbally abused the umpire prompting match referee Neeeyamur Rashid to put him under the jurisdiction.
