Bangladesh national cricket team will be eagerly waiting to watch the development of Tamim Iqbal in the upcoming days ahead of the ICC World Cup after the opener joined the team in Brisbane on Wednesday. Tamim, who had a meniscus operation on his left-knee, travelled separately in Australia in order to see his physician in Melbourne to assess his condition before joining the Tigers’ preparation camp.
‘Tamim arrived in the afternoon,’ team manager Khaled Mahmud told New Age on Wednesday. ‘It is very early to comment on his fitness. We will be observing his improvement in the upcoming days,’ said Mahmud.
According to Mahmud, Tamim looked to be on right track after receiving a vital injection at Melbourne.
Whether he gets some time in the middle during some of the scheduled practice matches is something upon which Tigers’ management is laying their emphasis at the moment.
‘It is just not only batting,’ said Mahmud. ‘There are several other things as well, like fielding and running between the wickets, which are crucial.
‘We are hoping he will be able to pull through because he is one of our best players,’ said Mahmud.
Meanwhile, Tigers had some good training session at the Allan Border Ground to complete second day of their two-week long conditioning camp based in Brisbane.
Batsmen are adapting fast in those bouncy wickets and looks comfortable in playing their shots, said Mahmud.
‘They are enjoying their time and looks to have very few problems adjusting to it,’ said Mahmud.
‘Bowlers are trying to get on with their length as it is observed that in these wickets you can hardly get away with loose balls,’ said Mahmud.
During their Brisbane stint, the Tigers will play two unofficial practice matches on February 1 and 3 against a Cricket Australia XI before moving to Sydney, where they will play their two official practice matches against Pakistan and Ireland. Bangladesh will begin their World Cup campaign against Afghanistan on February 18.
