Bangladesh U-19 team made a modest start in the second youth Test against Sri Lanka, reaching 168-5 from 73 overs on the opening day at Kandy on Monday.
Opting to bat first, openers Shadman Islam and Saif Hasan gave Junior Tigers a solid start putting 90 runs for their first wicket before Avishka Fernando had Shadman run out for 66 runs.
Shadman, who joined the squad after the triumphant five-match one-day series, struck 10 fours in his 116-ball innings, his second fifty in as many matches.
Saif was circumspect at the other end facing 128 balls for his 23.
The hosts bounced back after Saif Hasan and Munim Shahriar got perished in consecutive overs and didn’t allow the Bangladeshi side to put any important partnership later in the day.
Joyraz Sheik, who scored a century in the drawn first Test at Dambulla, ensured the day did not completely belonged to the islanders with his 31 off 66 balls.
