Four-day textile machinery expo begins today
Country’s ongoing political crisis is affecting the textile industry as the buyers are refraining from placing new orders and also offering lower prices, said the textile mills owners on Tuesday. They said the prolonged political crisis has been severely hampering the production, but the cost of production remained unchanged which was also affecting the industry. ‘The buyers are afraid of placing new orders as they fear we will not be able to deliver within the deadline,’ Bangladesh Textile Mills Association president Tapan Chowdhury said while announcing the 12th Dhaka International Textile and Garment Machinery Exhibition on the day.
He said the buyers were also offering lower prices because of the uncertain situation.
‘The buyers argue that as they are taking risk so they will pay less than the usual price,’ he said.
Tapan said the industry was already suffering from losses because of the political unrest in the previous year.
‘The government assured to provide incentive to recover last year’s loss but we are yet to receive that,’ he said.
The four-day exhibition will start from today to showcase latest textiles and garments technologies, machinery and parts.
A total of 880 exhibitors from 32 countries will display a wide variety of state-of-the-art textiles and garments technologies, machinery and parts during the event, organisers said.
Finance Minister AMA Muhith is expected to inaugurate the exposition at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.
‘The aim of the DTG-2015 is to create an opportunity for Bangladesh’s exporters to meet and deal with related manufacturers, regional agents and wholesalers under one roof,’ Tapan said.
According to the BTMA statistics, the DTG expo received spot delivery order worth US$ 200 million in 2014.
The BTMA president expected that spot delivery order this year will exceed the amount of last year.
The event is being jointly organised by Bangladesh Textile Mills Association, Chan Chao International Company Ltd, Taiwan and Yorkers Trade & Marketing Service Company Ltd, Hong Kong.
There will be more than 1,060 booths in 16 halls to display world class leading brands from Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK, USA and Vietnam.
