Bangladesh all-rounder Sakib al Hasan and Pakistani paceman Wahab Riaz were fined 30 per cent of their match fees on Sunday for breaching code of conduct during their drawn first Test in Khulna. The duo was found guilty for an incident happened in the 118th over of Bangladesh’s second innings when the two players unnecessarily halted play by arguing and pointing fingers at each other.
This was for the second time in two months Wahab has been fined for his temperamental behaviour.
In March, during the ICC World Cup quarter-final against Australia, Wahab was fined 50 per cent of his match fees after using obscene language with Australian all-rounder Shane Watson.
An International Cricket Council press release said that both Sakib and Wahab admitted their guilt for Saturday’s incident and therefore no formal hearing was needed.
‘Posturing and finger pointing in each other’s face is not what we expect from two senior international players and has no place in cricket,’ ICC quoted match-referee Jeff Crowe as saying.
‘International cricketers should always remember that they are being watched and followed by millions and, therefore, need to always control their emotions and demonstrate respect.’
Sakib made an unbeaten 76 runs during team’s second innings of 555-6, which helped Bangladesh earn their first draw against Pakistan after they had lost all their previous eight Tests to the side.
The draw left Pakistan still searching for their first win on the tour after being whitewashed 3-0 in the one-dayers and also losing the Twenty20 international.
The second and final Test of the short series will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium from May 6-10.
