Rabirag bade farewell to monsoon on the penultimate day of the season organising a vibrant programme at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library in the capital on Friday.
The show, Barshamangol, comprising Tagore’s monsoon songs and dance recitals based on same genres of songs, was a nice treat for Tagore lovers in a rainy evening on the Bangla month of Sraban.Rabirag artistes rendered 30 romantic and nature-based Tagore songs in group and solos when Nrityanchal artistes presented three spectacular dance recitals based on Tagore songs.
Eminent Tagore singer Sadi Mohammad, who is also director of Rabirag, deserves plaudits for selecting Tagore’s diverse and romantic songs which glorify monsoon. He also delighted the audience rendering a melancholic Rabindra Sangeet Ami Srabon Akashe Oi.
The romantic song truly matched the theme of the show as it expresses a person’s grief for the beloved who left away but still appears in imagination, especially on the cloudy sky in the month of Sraban.
The show began with a chorus of 15 artistes who presented songs such as Bishwabeena Robe Bishwajan, Bajromanik Diye Gantha and Ashar Kotha Hote.
Ranjit Roy, Roma Baroi, Golam Haider and Sandhya Bhattacharya delighted the audience presenting Abar Eseche Ashar, Aj Akasher Moner Kotha, Timir Abagunthane and Oi Malotilota Dole respectively.
But, presentation of same genre of songs in a row appeared monotonous and the audience was delighted with a variation when Nrityachal artistes, led by popular dancer-duo Shibli Mohammad and Shamim Ara Nipa, appeared on the stage.
Synchronised with Tagore’s songs such as Kharabayu Boy Bege and Mon Mor Megher Sangi, the Nrityachal artistes moved the audience presenting brilliant recitals.
Shibli-Nipa duo’s presentation of a duet recital based on popular song Moronre Tuhu Momo Shyam, which Tagore composed at the early stage of his life following the Vaisnava tradition, perfectly articulated Radha’s frustration at her separation from Krishna.
The show also featured solo and group presentation of different Tagore numbers including Dwip Nibhe Geche, Adhar Ratey, AJi Jharer Ratey, Sraban Ratey.
‘The show was an enjoyable one. But, there could be more narration in between the songs. Spectacular dance recitals made it diverse,’ said an audience, Nasimuzzaman Sumon.
