Bangladesh Football Federation backtracked from its decision to allow the National Football Academy to play in the second-tier Bangladesh Championship League bowing down to the pressure from other clubs.
The BFF in its executive committee meeting on August 22 had decided that the Sylhet-based academy to include in the championship league, but its professional league committee ignored the decision.
Professional football league committee chairman Salam Murshedi said they had to change the decision as some players already committed to play in participating clubs.
The players’ registration for the league starts today and many clubs are set to sign academy players flouting BFF instruction.
‘Most of the participating clubs requested us not to include the academy team this season because they have already finalised a group of players from the academy,’ said Murshedi on Wednesday.
‘Considering the interests of the clubs and
players we decided to include the team from next season.’
A total of eight clubs – Agrani Bank, Wari Club, Arambagh, Victoria Club, Uttar Baridhara, Youngmen’s Fakirerpool
Club, T&T Club and Bangladesh Police Athletic Club – will participate in the league that is expected
to begin at the end of October.
