A group of senior national cricketers met Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan at his Beximco office on Monday requesting him to scrap the provision of players’ by choice for the Dhaka Premier League transfer. The group includes national captain Mashrafee bin Murtaza, Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, batsman Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah, spinner Arafat Sunny.Players are concerned as Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis proposed the players’ by choice, apparently bowing down to the pressure of few clubs.
If the provision is implemented it would significantly reduce players’ bargaining capacity. The BCB previously used the provision only once in 2012-13 season and had promised not to repeat it as the system gives clubs some undue advantage.
However, CCDM said most of the clubs still want it as players are asking for high wages that they can hardly afford.
‘We requested him to scrap the provision,’ said a senior national cricketer who attended the meeting. ‘We want to play the league as per the traditional system. We could not bargain during the BPL. Now if same thing happens in Dhaka league it will be an unjust to us.
‘Many players rely on their income in the league. They will be badly affected by the system,’ said the player.
Dhaka Premier League is scheduled to start from March 12. The BCB however is yet to announce the date for transfer.
