Bangladesh bowlers need to raise their game as their skill will be challenged during their forthcoming matches of the ICC World Twenty20 at Bangalore.
Bangladesh will take on Australia and India respectively on March 21and 23 at Chinnaswamy stadium that has the reputation as batsmen’s paradise over the years.The outfield is fast as the grasses are cut short and the distance of square boundaries from the wicket is 75 metres while the distance straight from the wickets hardly crosses 70 metres.
With a fast outfield the batsmen with some kind of proficiency to play straight over the bowlers head or in between the mid-off and mid-on zones are likely to get the maximum runs as the balls will cross the boundaries in lightning speed.
Though only one international Twenty20 match is played in the venue so far, it has many run fests during the Indian Premier League.
Bangladesh bowlers have done reasonably well in the recent past at home and wicket played a vital role behind the success but the condition in Bangalore will surely test their mettle.
It became more evident when the assistant curator Prashant Rao informed that 190 was the par score in the venue during the IPL games as the wickets are very much conducive for stroke play.
Bangladeshi bowlers were at the receiving end at Eden Garden against Pakistan that had also helped the batsmen and as a result Bangladesh suffered a 55-run defeat.
The likes of Warner and Maxwell of Australia or Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli of India will not leave much room for the bowlers to exploit and expected to get over them with each and every loose ball.
Bangladesh bowling coach Heath Streak said that knowing the condition the best way to go after the opponents is by sticking to the basics as mixing up too many things can have a counter repercussion.
‘It’s just the discipline,’ Streak told reporters.
‘You stick to your variations and pace but more importantly you stick to plans [that we chalk] for every batsman,’ said Streak.
‘This is very good batting wicket.
‘Bangalore is place for high scoring runs and everyone is going to have a big challenge.
‘All the bowlers really need to be at the top of their game,’ he said.
Mashrafee bin Murtaza believes that even a score around 180 to 200 is chaseable in this venue and batsmen need to prepare to apply themselves according to their ability.
