Bangladesh plan to go all-out in the dead rubber against New Zealand – their last match of the ICC World Twenty20 at Eden Gardens today.
While New Zealand will be trying to keep their unbeaten record intact, the Tigers will want to end their tourney with a consolation win after drawing close in their last two matches.
Bangladesh lost to Australia by three wickets while they lost their nerves in the last minute during the one-run defeat to India, which shattered their dream of staying in the tournament.
‘We have nothing to lose,’ Masharfee told reporters in the pre-match press
conference at Eden Gardens.
Outside the match against Pakistan, we did well against Australia and India. We were there in the match till the last minute.
‘Against Australia, we didn’t play bad cricket. If we can take that into account the positive things from the last two matches, we can do something good against New Zealand,’ he said.
Mashrafee said they have to come out of the shock against India and make a positive impact in the game.
‘It’s difficult to forget, but we had 48 hours to ponder on it,’ said Mashrafee.
‘Obviously we can’t change what happened but we can try to win this match if we get a chance, by avoiding similar mistakes,’ he said.
New Zealand, meanwhile, are not taking anything for granted against Bangladesh as they try to finish the group phase on a high.
New Zealand was the first team to confirm their berth in the semi-final after three successive wins against India, Australia and Pakistan respectively.
‘We have to find a formula to win. It’s different to the one in the last game because the conditions are totally different,’ said New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi.
‘To be honest, I’m not quite sure about the semifinal lineup and who’s going to be there.
‘Just preparing for tomorrow’s match,’ he said.
