Ayman Ibn Zaman of Bangladesh Railway and Shapla Akter of Narayanganj District emerged as the men’s and women’s champions of the 34th National Badminton Championship, which ended at the Shaheed Tazuddin Indoor Stadium on Saturday. Ayman beat Enamul Haque by 21-6, 21-18 sets to clinch the title in the men’s single event while Shapla defeated her team-mate Alina Sultana by 15-21, 21-7 and 21-19 sets to clinch the women’s single title.
This was Shapla’s fifth national championship singles title while Ayman tasted his second national championship title.
In the men’s doubles event, Jamil Ahmed Dulal and Rahat Kabir Khaled of Sylhet district clinched the championship after beating team-mates Ebadul Haque and Joynal Abedin in the final.
In the women’s doubles, Shapla and Alina pair of Narayanganj beat Bristi Khatun and Rehana Khatun of Bangladesh Army in the final.
Shapla completed her treble when she won the mixed doubles event pairing with Abdul Hannan.
Shapla, Hannan pair of Narayanganj beat Sylhet’s Rahat Kabir Khaled and Afrina Islam Mouli by 21-9, 23-21 sets.
