Wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Kumar Das was looking to put an impressive performance in the Dhaka Premier League to return back to the national fold.
Liton, who came to the spotlight after contributing heavily for Abahani Limited in the last edition of DPL, will be playing for the same outfit with a similar motto.Though Liton failed to express his potential at international level in similar fashion like the way he dominated domestic cricket, he is keen to make it count when he gets the opportunity.
‘There is nothing called fluency [if you compare my domestic and international performance],’ Liton told reporters at Mirpur on Wednesday.
‘It can happen in the first time and there can be ups and down.
‘Perhaps I could not get properly set on the first occasion. But there is nothing like I cannot do it in future,’ he said.
Liton said the source of inspiration lies from the fact that both national coach Chandika Hathurusinghe and skipper Mashrafee bin Murtaza still did not lose their confidence on him.
Liton, who made a fluent 44 against India on his Test debut at Fatullah, somehow failed to keep up the promise in the following days though he had no short of backing from the team high-ups.
‘From skipper to coach everyone wants me to make a comeback [in the national team,’ said Liton.
‘Overall it is all up to my performance and I want to do it wherever I play.’
Liton said that he is currently working with his shortcomings in his batting but at the same time is not losing his sleep thinking too much about the national team.
‘To be honest, I am not thinking too much about it,’ said the 21-year old wicket-keeper batsman.
‘I am working with some of my shots and the other shortcomings, though I don’t want to elaborate about it.
‘I want to go after it part by part. At the moment as there is premier league I am only focusing on it,’ he added.
Liton added that he was happy as Abahani retained his service in the league as it would help him play freely.
Abahani picked Liton, the second highest scorer in the last edition of DPL, as one of the two players the clubs could hold back in the players’ by choice transfer system.
‘I am lucky that I can play for a big team. Last year as I performed well and they did well in the league. I was hoping that they would keep me back,’ said Liton.
‘Last year I was the second highest scorer in the league and hope to be on the upper slots this time too,’ he added.
