Eight bowlers of different clubs were reported with suspect bowling action in the first two rounds of Dhaka Premier League, confirmed the officials of Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Mohammedan Sporting Club’s left-arm spinner Naeem Islam jr and Faisal Hossain were latest in the list after they were reported by the umpires during their two-wicket loss to Victoria on Thursday.
On the same day, Gazi Group Cricketers off-spinner Mustafizur Rahman was reported for the second time in the league during their match against Legends of Rupganj in Fatullah.
Though the umpires reported the bowlers as their routine duty, the BCB was yet to form the bowling action review committee despite promising to do so at the start of the league.
The issue of rampant chucking in domestic leagues came to the centre stage after two Bangladeshi bowlers – Taskin Ahmed and Arafat Sunny– were banned by the International Cricket Council during the recent ICC World Twenty20.
It left umpires more cautious about illegal bowling as they also reported Gazi Group left-arm spinner Moinul Islam, Abahani off-spinner Amit Kumar, Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club left-arm spinner Rejaul Karim, CCS pacer Mohammad Saifuddin and Legends of Rupganj off-spinner Asif Ahmed with suspect action.
In the absence of bowling review committee, the BCB however was left completely inactive making it difficult for the teams to start working with their suspect bowlers.
‘How can I work with him if I am not informed clearly,’ said Gazi Group coach Salahuddin, who was credited to rectify the action of Abdur Razzak in 2008.
‘We must be able to understand the problem with my bowlers before we can work to rectify it,’ he said.
‘I am yet to know whether my bowler Mustafiz is having problem with all his deliveries or with some of them,’ he said.
