Kazi Salahuddin has been re-elected as president of the Bangladesh Football Federation for the third consecutive time after defeating Kamrul Ashraf Khan Poton by 33 votes in the BFF elections at the Radisson Blu Water Garden on Saturday. A record was set as all 134 delegates cast their votes to elect 21-member executive committee where combined panel candidate Salahuddin earned 83 votes to retain his post.
Bachao Football candidate and member of parliament, Poton, who had a little recognition in the football fraternity before contesting for the most prestigious post in country’s football, earned 50 votes while one vote for president post was barred.
Earlier, Salahuddin became BFF president for the first time in 2008 after defeating late Amin Ahmed Chowdhury (Bir Bikram). He retained his post in the 2012 polls after getting elected unopposed.
‘I want to thank every delegate, councilors, voters who gave their right decision for the love of football’, said the newly elected president adding ‘After many days of dramas they proved that football is great.’
A total of 46 candidates contested for the president, four vice-president and 15 executive member posts.
There was no need for vote in the senior vice-president post after former footballer Abdus Salam Murshedy was elected unopposed from the combined panel as three other candidates of Bachao Football — Manzur Kader, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan and Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul withdrew dramatically.
The polls kicked off at 2:00pm following the annual general meeting where the audit report of 2015 and draft budget for the current year was approved by the delegates.
Meanwhile, A total of 10 candidates competed for the four vice-president post, where three candidates from combined panel — Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Bador Roy and Mahiuddin Ahmed Mohi have been elected alongside independent candidate Tabith Awal.
