Legends of Rupganj skipper Mosahrraf Hossain made an all-round performance to help his side beat Prime Doleshwar by six wickets in their Dhaka Premier League match at Fatullah on Thursday. Mosharraf, who has played three one-day internationals for Bangladesh as a left-arm spinner, scored 81 to guide Rupganj to 222-4 in 46.2 overs after Doleshwar were all-out for 216 in 48.2 overs.
Rupganj’s icon batsman Soumya Sarkar, who showed sign of returning to form by scoring 84 runs against Abahani Limited in their last match, failed again as he was out for a duck off the bowling of Nasir Hossain.
But another national team player Mohammad Mithun scored 51 runs before he was run out and built two crucial partnerships of 40 and 63 respectively with opener Mizanur Rahman and Mosharraf.
But the biggest partnership of the innings came after the fall of Mithun as Mosharraf and Asif Ahmed added 96 runs before the Rupganj captain was dismissed just seven runs from the victory.
Mosharraf struck seven boundaries and three sixes in his crucial 98-ball innings that handed Doleshwar their second consecutive loss after they won the first four matches of the league.
Mosharraf, who opened the bowling, picked up just one wicket but conceded just 27 runs off 10 overs to restrict the opponents.
At the beginning of the 47th over Rupganj needed just five runs but Asif needed nine for his half century and the 23-year old batsman scored a four and a six in the next two balls of Reazaul Karim reach his half century and finish the match in style.
Earlier Doleshwar’s in-form opener Imtiaz was out in the first ball of the match bowled by Mosharraf and his opening partner Ziaur Rahman soon followed him with five.
Sri Lankan Chamara Silva made a lone battle scoring 89 runs off just 76 balls but did not get enough support from others to put a substantial total on the board.
Roqibul Hassan, Rony Talukdar and Sanzamul Islam all made starts but could not get big scores as they made 27, 25 and 25 respectively.
Hider and Nahidul Islam got two wickets each for victors.
With the win Rupganj are in third position with nine points while Doleshwar slipped to fourth with eight points.
