Shahriar Nafees made an emphatic century to ensure Brothers union beat Cricket Coaching School by 38 runs in their Dhaka Premier League match at Mirpur on Saturday.
Shahriar made 134, the highest innings so far in this year’s DPL, to help Brothers put 253-6 on the board before CCS were bundled out for 215 in 47.2 overs.Shahriar and Imrul Kayes made a blistering start after they were sent into batting as they made 108 runs in the opening stand before Imrul was dismissed for 49.
But the other batsmen could not give much support to Shahriar, who struck 14 boundaries and five sixes in his 147-ball innings, to post a defendable total on the board.
Shahriar, who made a List ‘A’ century after nine years, told after the match that it was a outcome of his hard work regarding keeping the fitness and improving the batting.
‘I have been trying over the last two seasons two improve my fitness,’ said Shahriar. ‘My goal is to keep performing, and if I can do that I may get back a chance in the national team in future,’ said the left-handed batsman, who has a Test century and four one-day international centuries.
But the 31-year old batsman also added.’ If I don’t even get a chance I will remain happy if I can play well.’
Left-arm spinner Saleh Ahmed picked up 4-45 for CCS.
In reply, CCS lost both their openers early to become 25-2 before Saif Hasan and Salman Hossain, who have been scoring runs regularly for CCS, made a 139-run partnership that raised their hopes to achieve their first win in the league in the sixth match.
Salman got out for 68 before CCS faced a remarkable collapse that saw their last eight wickets fall for just 51 runs.
Saif was eventually ran himself out for 86 to wipe out any possibility of CCS to clinch the match.
Milind Kumar, Asif Hasan and Nabil Samad grabbed two wickets each for Brothers.
With the win, Brothers have six points from same number of matches to keep their hopes for super-league alive.
