Kalabagan Krira Chakra batsman Tasamul Haque made a marvelous century to help his side win against Mohammedan Sporting Club in their Dhaka Premier League match on Saturday to keep their super league hopes alive. Tasamul made 126 not out, his first ever list ‘A’ century, to guide his side reach 291-4 in 43.1 overs after their bowlers restricted the opponents to 250-6 in 43.1 overs at Fatullah.
In the other two matches of the day, Victoria Sporting Club and Legends of Rupganj won their respective matches to confirm their super league berth with 13 points each and a round to go.
Abdul Mazid scored 118 to post 302-9 on the board for Victoria before Brothers Union were all out for 190 in 45.3 overs to be defeated by 112 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
At the BKSP all-rounder Nahidul Islam was the star for Legends, whose bowlers bundled out Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club for 184 in 45 overs, before their batsmen reached 185-3 in 32.5 overs.
Kalabagan v Mohammedan
Chasing a big score Kalabagan lost their opner Jashimuddin for a duck in the second ball before Tasamul and Hasanuzzaman, who appeared for the first time in this year’s league, made a 140-run partnership.
Hasanuzzaman got out for 95 but Tasamul coasted his side home with eight boundaries and two sixes in his 129-ball innings and formed an unbeaten 129-run partnership with Tanvir Haider, who scored 52 not out.
Earlier on the day, Mohammedan won the toss and decided to bat first before their Indian recruit Bipul Sharma made 100 runs of 86 balls and their skipper Mushfiqur Rahim scored 75 runs.
Dewan Sabbir grabbed 3-77 and though skipper Mashrafee, who was supposed to play for MSC before they rejected him in the players’ draft, remained wicketless but gave away just 41 runs off 10 overs.
This was the third consecutive victory for Kalabagan that took their points tally to 10 while Mohammedan, who were leading the league earlier, lost their third successive match to remain with 12 points and were in danger of missing out the super league berth.
Victoria v Brothers
Openers Mazid and Fazle Muhammad, who scored 71, made the highest opening partnership as they made 170 runs in 33.3 overs before Mazid was dismissed for 118 with 11 boundaries and four sixes off 117 balls.
Mominul Haque followed him just two balls later with a duck but the Victoria batsmen played some cameos to get past 300. Nabil Samad got 4-50 for Brothers.
In reply, skipper Tushar Imran made a lone battle and despite his 93 his team surrendered meekly.
The defeat did not only wipe out the super league chances of Brothers but it all confirmed their relegation league play-off.
Legends v Jamal
Legends’ Taijul Islam and Murad Khan got three wickets each while Alauddin Babu and Nahidul grabbed two wickets apiece to bundle out Jamal for a low score.
Man of the match Nahidul missed his first ever century in a competitive game as he got out for 92 but former national batsman Junaid Siddique remained not out on 53 and their partnership of 125 runs in third wicket made the run chase easy.
With the defeat, Jamal remained on 10 points and they not only have to beat Mohammedan in their last match on June 8 but also need the results of other matches of the last round in their favour.
