A stoppage time equaliser from Nigerian forward Nkowcha Kingsley helped Brothers Union to secure a point against Team BJMC as both the sides played out a 1-1 draw in their Bangladesh Premier League match in Chittagong on Saturday. In the day’s second match Muktijoddha Sangshad Krira Chakra tasted their first win of the league with a 3-0 win over Arambagh Krira Sangha.
Midfielder Moklesur Rahman Mukul gave BJMC the lead in the early first-half before Kingsley’s injury time header gave both sides their second consecutive draw of the league.
BJMC created the first real chance in the 11th minute when their attackers — Samson Iliasu, Jakir Hossain Ziku and Mehedi Hasan Tapu — made a fine buildup but Tapu failed to beat Brothers keeper in a one-on-one situation.
Mukul put BJMC ahead three minutes later after exploiting a scramble made by Brothers keeper Uttam Barua.
Brothers’ defender Nazimuddin Mithu gave a back-pass to keeper Uttam, who missed the ball, and Mukul was there to tap it into the net.
Brothers could level the margin at the hour mark when Kingsley saw his powerful strike from outside the penalty area hit the woodwork.
BJMC seemed organised most of the time and maintained their domination after the resumption.
But Brothers pressed hard to level the margin in the last few minutes.
Mohammad Roni provided a cross into the middle of the box but none of his team-mates inside the box were able to connect in the 86th minute.
Kingsley, however, broke the goal drought in the last minute of the four-minute stoppage time when the Nigerian striker headed home from the middle of the box following a cross of Roni from the right flank.
Meanwhile, Nigerian forward Ahmed Kolo Musa was the star in Muktijoddha’s win by scoring a brace.
Muktijoddha went ahead in the 36th minute when Arambagh defender Yoko Samnick handed down a cross of Mobarak Hossain inside the box and referee blew the whistle for a penalty. Kolo Musa made no mistake to convert from the spot.
Musa doubled the lead in the 80th minute with a solo effort. Receiving a long through from Mobarak, the Nigerian forward entered into the penalty area and dodged past advancing Arambagh keeper Mitul before slotting the ball home with an angular shot.
Substitute forward Zaved Khan completed the rout with a nice finish five minutes later.
