Bangladesh shooter stays clam before event
Bangladesh’s Abdullah Hel Baki will take part in 10metre air rifle event of the Olympic Games at the Olympic Shooting Centre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil today.
A total of 58 participants from around the world will vie in the discipline, scheduled to start at 6:00pm Bangladesh Standard time. Baki, who is going to represent Bangladesh in the Olympic for the first time after getting wild card entry from International Olympic Committee, claimed that he was not feeling any pressure before his event.
Baki said his previous visit in Rio in April helped him adjust with the unfamiliar condition as he earlier expressed his concern over the time difference between Dhaka and Rio.
‘I coped with the unfamiliar situation as soon as I have arrived here six days ago,’ Baki told New Age over phone on Sunday.
‘Here everything is well and I personally don’t face any problem which helped me to keep my mind calm and that is very important for a shooter.
‘Moreover the distance of the shooting range from game’s village is not too far and the range is also familiar for me due to my previous experience in the ISSF World Cup in April.’
Baki preferred not to set target in the competition.
‘All world best shooters will take part in the competition with preparing well so I don’t want to set any high target.
‘Coach (Klavs Christenesen of Denmark) told me to keep my mind cool and enjoy the competition and don’t pay heed to others.
‘I’m just concentrating to my game and I want to compete only for my own enjoyment.
‘My only goal is to return home with self satisfaction and surpass my previous best.’
Baki, the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games Silver medallist, recorded his career best 624.8 points to be paced 28th among 114 participants in the ISSF World Cup in May this year in Germany.
