Bangladeshi archer Shyamoli Roy managed a bronze medal in the recurve women’s category of the ongoing Asia Cup World Ranking Tournament Stage 1 and World Games 2017 Wroclaw Archery Qualification in Thailand on Friday. Shyamoli was the only archer among 16 Bangladeshi participants to reach the last-four in the recurve individual category event.
Shyamoli, who represented Bangladesh in last year’s Rio Olympic Games, managed four straight wins to reach the semi-finals before suffering a 7-1 defeat against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Shin Chia, who won silver.
Loc Thi Dao of Vietnam won the gold medal after a 6-5 set win over Lin Shin Chia.
However, Shyamoli brought the only medal for the country after a 5-4 win over Nichol Marie of Philippines in the bronze medal deciding match.
Bangladesh’s Heera Moni finished joint 17th among 33 competitors while Beauty Roy and Radia Akter Shapla shared the 33rd place in the same category.
In the men’s recurve individual event, Ruman Sana was knocked out from the fourth round after a 0-6 defeat to Chinese Taipei’s Chung Heng.
In the recurve mixed team event, Bangladesh’s Ruman and Shyamoli pair were eliminated from the quarter-final round after a 2-6 defeat against Chinese Taipei.
In the compound mixed team Bangladesh’s Abul Kashem and Roksana Akter were eliminated from the first round after a 156-141 points defeat to Malaysia.
