Bangladesh Test skipper Mushfiqur Rahim said on Sunday that he would not resign from his captaincy despite humiliating innings and 254 runs defeat against South Africa in the second Test in Bloemfontein on Sunday. Mushfiq was highly criticised for his inappropriate decisions throughout the series, especially in both the tosses, where he asked South Africa to bat first in dry-wickets.
In the just-concluded second Test, the Tigers could hardly bat on a wicket where four out of six Protea batsmen made their hundreds as they were bowled out for only 147 and 172 in two innings.
‘Why should I? It is not an individual’s game. It is a team game,’ Mushfiq said in post-match press conference on Sunday. ‘Obviously, all the blame comes to me being the captain. [But] it is up to the board. They gave me the honour and opportunity. They gave me the respect to lead the side. I tried my level best with honesty. If they are not satisfied they will take their decision’
Mushfiq, who is leading Bangladesh Test side since October 2011, said, he took on offense in his criticism.
‘The blame always goes to the captain. I am not denying it,’ he said. ‘I have tried to do my job with honesty. We didn’t expect to play so poorly here.’
