Bangladesh on Saturday included batsman Mominul Haque in their 14-man squad for the two-match Twenty20 international series against South Africa.
Mominul came into the side as opening batsman Tamim Iqbal failed to recover sufficiently from a muscle injury that ruled him out of the remaining of the tour.‘Tamim will return to Dhaka on Sunday to continue his rehab,’ the Bangladesh Cricket Board said in a statement.
Tamim aggravated the injury during Wednesday’s 104-run loss in the second one-day international after it already cost him a Test and an ODI during this tour.
Pace bowlers Mashrafee bin Murtaza and Mustafizur Rahman will also return home after the ODI series, which will end today.
Mustafiz twisted his ankle during a training session before the first ODI and did not play any part so far in the three-match series.
Mashrafee, on the other hand, retired from Twenty20 internationals in April this year.
Tamim’s replacement Mominul did not play a Twenty20 international since April 2014.
Batsman Nasir Hossain, wicketkeeper Liton Das, and pace bowler Rubel Hossain have been recalled in the Twenty20 side after a decent gap.
Liton played last of his three T20I in November 2015 while Nasir played just one match in the ICC World Twenty20 in India last year.
Rubel played the Twenty20 series against New Zealand earlier this year but missed the two-match series against Sri Lanka in February.
At least four other players – Sanjamul Islam, Nurul Hasan, Mosaddek Hossain, Subashis Roy– who formed the part of Bangladesh team for Sri Lanka series missed out this time.
Sakib will return to the helm of Twenty20 side, having already led Bangladesh in four matches in this format during his first stint as regular captain in 2009-10.
The first T20I– a day-night- game is scheduled in Bloemfontein on October 26 before Bangladesh wrap-up their tour with the second match at Potchefstroom on October 29.
