At least two directors of Bangladesh Cricket Board have to face the elections to get re-elected as rival candidates refused to give them a bye unlike many others in the forthcoming elections, scheduled on Tuesday. Former national captain and Manikganj district councillor Naimur Rahman has to face a contest with Narsinghdi councillor Shahinur Islam, Narayanganj councillor Tanvir Ahmed Titu and Kishoreganj councillor Syed Ashfaqul Islam for one of two positions of directors reserved for Dhaka division.
Gopalganj councillor Sheikh Fazle Naim and Munshiganj councillor Junate Hossain withdrew their nomination papers, leaving 18 voters to choose two directors from four candidates.
The last date for withdrawal of nomination paper was on Sunday.
Barisal Divisional Sports Association representative Alamgir Khan refused to withdraw his nomination paper, ensuring election for one director from Barisal division. Current BCB director MA Awal Chowdhury is the other candidate from the division.
Incumbent BCB president Nazmul Hasan was among 20 directors elected unopposed from different categories in the election.
Ahmed Sazzadul Alam and Enayet Hossain withdrew the nomination papers from club category, leaving 12 candidates including Nazmul, elected unopposed.
Sazzadul and Enayet were nominated as directors by the National Sports Council.
Directors will later elect president and two vice-presidents in a separate election.
