The detective branch (DB) of police released television play director Chayanika Chowdhury last night having earlier picked her up from Dhaka’s Panthapath in the evening for interrogation because of her “well-acquaintance” with arrested actor Pori Moni.
Chayanika was released around 10:45pm last night, Wahidul Islam, deputy commissioner of DB Tejgaon division confirmed to The Daily Star.
Earlier, she was taken to the DB office for interrogation, Hafiz Akhtar, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told The Daily Star.
Talking to reporters around 10:15pm, Harun Or Rashid, joint commissioner of DB (North), said Pori Moni’s costume designer Junayed Karim Jimmy had also been brought to the DB office for interrogation.
“We have found from the beginning of the investigation that various activities including drug business were going on to destroy the children of upper-middle class families. We found more names after interrogating Pori Moni. One of them was her costume designer Junayed Karim Jimmy,” he said.
Harun Or Rashid said Jimmy was picked up from Banani area and is being interrogated.
He said during interrogation of Pori Moni, they got many allegations against her “so-called mother” Chayanika Chowdhury.
“At the end of the interrogation, we will hand her over to her family for the time being. We will call her later if we need to question her again.”
Popular TV and film director Salauddin Lavlu said he came to know about the detention of Chayanika Chowdhury through Television Programme Producer Association General Secretary Saju Muntasir.
Lavlu, also president of the Directors Guild, told The Daily Star, “We will hold a meeting and take our step organisationally as per the situation.”
