World leaders greet Bangladesh on Independence Day
World leaders have greeted Bangladeshi people and its leadership on the country’s Independence Day, pledging to boost their relationship with Bangladesh for prosperity and stability.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has said his country is committed to expanding ties with Bangladesh so that both nations can thrive together.
“Both of our countries emerged after intense struggles for independence and we both strive to live up to our founding democratic ideals,” he said in a message yesterday.
Over the last five decades, the two countries continued cooperation in ensuring a safer and more prosperous future and it will continue for the generations to come, Blinken said, while applauding Bangladesh’s impressive economic and developmental achievements.
Lauding the country’s commitment to keeping the world safe as the largest contributor to peacekeeping operations, the US Secretary of State said, “Our defence, developmental, commercial and people-to-people partnership is stronger than ever.”
Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
He emphasised that the relations between Russia and Bangladesh are based on the good traditions of friendship and mutual respect.
He expressed confidence that through joint efforts, governments of the two countries will ensure further development of constructive bilateral cooperation in political, trade, economic, humanitarian and other spheres.
“This cooperation undoubtedly meets the interests of their people, and goes in line with the promotion of regional stability and security,” Putin said.
India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar extended greetings to his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen and the people of the country.
Taking to Twitter, Jaishankar said he looks forward to working together to add more pages to the golden chapter of India-Bangladesh Maitri.
Bangladesh and India are committed to further strengthening and consolidating the existing excellent relations that are founded on commonalities of values, culture and legacies based on mutual trust, respect and understanding, he said.
Leaders of UAE, on separate messages, congratulated President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The UAE is also celebrating Bangladesh’s Independence Day by illuminating the red and green flag on its tallest building.
Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President; Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler of Dubai and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, have sent similar messages to both President and Prime Minister.
