A Natore court yesterday sent to jail Mamun Hossain, husband of college teacher Khairun Nahar whose body was recovered from her home on Sunday.
Nasim Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Natore sadar police station, said that Saber Hossain, a cousin of the deceased, filed the case with the police station. Though, none was accused in the case.
Police officials said that they had shown arrested, Mamun Hossain, husband of the college teacher, under section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure and sent him to a senior judicial magistrate court as the matter was under investigation.
Later, judge Moslem Uddin sent him to jail, denying his bail plea.
Earlier, Khairun Nahar, 42, assistant professor of the Department of Philosophy at Khubjipur Mozammel Haque Degree College of Gurudaspur upazila in the district, was found dead in her rented apartment in Boladipara area.
The relatives of the teacher said that Khairun, mother of two sons, was going through mental stress since her second marriage with Mamun Hossain, 22, a second-year student at Nawab Siraj-Ud-Dowla Government College, triggered huge criticism, and she faced cyberbullying.
Following the incident, police detained Mamun for interrogation.
Samiul Islam, resident medical officer of Natore General Hospital, said that the preliminary observations revealed that Khairun Nahar had committed suicide.
‘Necessary evidence has been collected from the body of the deceased for medical tests. The final report will be given after receiving the results of the tests,’ he added.
Meanwhile, Liton Kumar Saha, Natore superintendent of police, said that Mamun confessed to their marital discord during primary interrogation.
He said that the couple quarrelled at about 2:00am on Saturday. At one stage, Mamun kicked Khairun and left the house.
‘The teacher attempted to contact Mamun several times over the phone, but the latter did not answer the phone calls. Khairun Nahar might commit suicide in anger,’ he added.
