The Bangladesh government has raised the prices of four types of fertilisers – urea, DAP, TSP, and MOP – by Tk 5 per kg.
An order signed by Sheikh Badiul Alam, deputy chief for fertiliser management and monitoring at the Ministry of Agriculture, was issued in this regard yesterday.
“In view of the ongoing global economic situation, the sale price of fertiliser has been revised to keep the import of fertiliser at a reasonable level and ensure its best use due to the increase in the prices of fertiliser in the international market,”the order said.
From now on, urea fertiliser will have to be purchased at Tk 25 per kg, DAP at Tk 19, TSP at Tk 25 and MOP at Tk 18 per kg. At the farmer level, the price of urea will be Tk 27 per kg, DAP Tk 21, TSP Tk 27 and MOP Tk 20 per kg.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the order came into effect from yesterday.
On April 3, Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said the government has no plan to raise the prices of fertiliser so that agriculture production could be maintained.
The government has set the demand of 68.42 lakh tonnes of fertiliser for 2023-24 fiscal year. There is a demand of 27 lakh tonnes of urea fertiliser and 16 lakh tonnes of DAP fertiliser in the fiscal year, he added.
Besides, there is a demand of 7.5 lakh tonnes of TSP fertiliser and 9 lakh tonnes of MOP fertiliser, the minister said.
