Ashraful Hossain Alom, known as Hero Alom, got back his candidacy to compete for the Dhaka-17 by-elec tion.
Ashoke Kumar Debnath, additional secretary of Election Commission, confirmed it while talking to reporters at the commission office in Agargaon this afternoon.
“The two appeals [against EC’s decision to scrap their nominations] by independent candidate Ashraful Hossain Alom and Zaker Party candidate Kazi Mohammad Rashidul Hasan have been accepted,” he told reporters.
The Election Commission on June 18 scrapped the nomination paper of Hero Alom.
On June 5, Hero Alom announced that he would contest the by-election to the Dhaka-17 constituency, which fell vacant after the death of actor Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque.
Alom bought the nomination paper from the Election Commission that day.
The Dhaka-17 by-polls will be held on July 17.
